In the world but not of it

Hello there,
You know ever since I became a christian,  one burning question has  been at the forefront of my faith.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR ME TO BE IN THE WORLD BUT NOT OF IT?
I have been trying to find an equal balance for a long time.
How can I live in this world, but not be a part of it.
The search led me to the Amish, who do live in the world, but they are definately not a part of  this worlds madness.
Now becoming full on Amish would be lovely for me, but somehow I don't think my husband and children would agree... and I don't think its Gods plan for me either.

SO, here I am still trying to figure this all out.
One thing I know is I'm not a fan of technology, (although I use a computer obviously).
But I stay away from most of the techno stuff  that people love so much these days.
I don't have an I pod or I pad or Iphone. I don't facebook, twitter either.

I'm not into having music blaring in my ears with earphones.
I don't play internet games, xbox games, playstation, nor nintendo.
I haven't listened to the radio in years.

Okay, I know I probably sound really boring, but those things just don't interest me.
I'm an old fashioned girl at heart.
I love to read books (remember those) and write letters by hand.
Now don't faint when I say that.
I like modesty and purity.
I like fashions that keep a woman looking feminine and lady like, and not like  the bad fashions of today. And I don't need 300 pairs of shoes.
I like to bake and sew and do crafts.
I like to be in my garden and plant things and watch Gods amazing creations grow.

Any way I'm getting of the track here.
So I made myself some rules to keep out of this world, even though I must be a part of it.

1. Keep away from technology and  media and the worlds music.
2. Spend time in Gods word, learning, studying and praying.
3. Love God with all my heart, mind, soul and strength.
4. Keep to myself.
5. Dress feminine,  plain, modest & comfortable.
6. Focus on the Lord and how I can best serve Him.
6. Save money/ no debts/ give to those in need./ be frugal
7. Be happy just being me.
8. Enjoy Gods creation each day
9.  Put others needs before my own.
10. Do the things that make me happy.
11. Sing Gods praises everyday
12. Be kind and loving to everyone.
13. Work hard and stive to always do my best. 1 Cor 10:31
14. Cook from scratch. Stay away from junk and fizzy drinks
15. Talk soft & quietly and gently.
16. keep my home clean &tidy.
17. Be organised in all I have to do.
18. Don't complain about anything
19. Trust God in all circumstances.
20. Don't listen to the lies of this world.
The Bible says the wisdom of the world is foolishness.

Okay thats a pretty good list and one that I can stick to.
Bye for now. Julie xx
